Little Martin's Garden Diary

18th Apr 2009 - The Saturday after Easter

Saturday started early this week, dead heading the daffodils, a job that is necessary, but one that I really do not like. Once the flower blooms have faded seed pods are formed, taking away valuable energy from the bulb which could be used for next year’s flowers. By removing the faded flowers, and the seed pod, but leaving the leaves to make more energy to be stored in the bulb for the new flowers next year. This helps to ensure a good show of flowers for the following year.

Following on from last week’s work in the greenhouse it was given a bit of a spring clean with a pressure washer. Removing all the grime that has built up over the winter, ensuring the maximum amount of light can get through to the plants. Using the pressure washer also removes any debris that has accumulated in the various nooks and crannies in the greenhouse over the winter.

Next up, one of my most hated jobs, but at the same time, one of the most satisfying; pressure washing the patios! While this is not the most pleasant job in the garden, it is also one of the most satisfying, inasmuch you can easily see the massive improvement that cleaning the patio actually brings.

Later in the day, a couple of visits to local nurseries looking for new plants for a couple of the areas that Nicky did a new planting plan for. A lot nicer than pressure washing!
